WHERE CHAMPIONS ARE NOT JUST MADE THERE BORN!!

JUST A LITTLE INFORMATION ON TITLES

These pages are to clarify terms and titles you may have seen regarding the American Pit Bull Terrier, show dogs, breeding and health testing as well as provide some general information. If there is something you would like to know that isn't on here or something you would like me to add please email or call me. I may not know the answer myself but I know a lot of knowledgable and experienced people (and Charlie is a veterinarian) so chances are I can find what you need!
Happy reading! Shauna

~So what do all those letters mean, anyway?~

UKC ~ The United Kennel Club. One of the two legitimate and reputable registries that registers the purebred American Pit Bull Terrier. (The other is the ADBA - the American Dog Breeders Association). In addition to registering dogs, UKC holds conformation shows and working events in which dogs earn points and titles.

CH ~ Conformation champion. This title is earned by getting 100 points and 3 majors. Points are earned for 1st place and major wins. A major means winning Best Male/Female. You can also win Best of Winners which counts towards your points but not as one of your 3 majors. CH is also an AKC title but the point system is different.
Points are earned as follows: Class win = 10 pts., Major win = 15 pts., Best of Winners = 10 pts.

GR CH ~ Grand Champion. This title is earned by winning 5 Champion classes with competition under 3 different judges.

TT ~ Temperament tested. The American Temperament Test Society holds tests designed to carefully evaluate a dog's temperament and those who pass the test earn the TT title. To us, this is of far more value than a CH or GR CH title (although those are great too!).

CGC ~ Canine Good Citizen title. Means the dog has passed a 10 step basic obedience test given by a certified CGC evaluator.

UWP ~ United Weight Pull Title. Dogs earn this title by pulling a qualifying amounts on weight on 3 seperate pulls.

'PR' ~ Purple Ribbon-bred. This simply means the dog has 3 generations of UKC registered dogs in its pedigree.

DNA-P ~ DNA Profiled. UKC has a DNA profiling database. You can have your dog DNA profiled easily and recieve a certificate with its profile.

DNA-VIP ~ DNA Verified Identified Parentage. Means not only is the dog DNA profiled but its parents are also and the three have been checked against each other, verifying the parentage.
